DIABETIC EYE EXAMS
A diabetic patient should have an eye exam at least once per year. Diabetes can affect your eyes in a variety of ways: a change in the eyeglass prescription, double vision, a loss of vision and/or bleeding inside of the eye (diabetic retinopathy). Treating diabetic eye conditions early, may prevent a permanent loss of vision. Schedule an appointment with Dr. Robert Bass or Dr. Amy Carlyle for a comprehensive diabetic eye examination.
CATARACTS
A cataract is a clouding of the eye's natural lens. This clouding can cause a reduction in the clarity of vision. Most cataracts occur gradually as we age, however, they can occur at birth or from trauma. Vision changes due to early cataracts often cause a change in the eyeglass prescription. Updating the eyeglass prescription may restore some of the loss of vision due to an early cataract. When the clarity of vision is lost beyond the point that prescription changes will improve vision, removing the cataract is recommended. Schedule an appointment with Dr. Robert Bass or Dr. Amy Carlyle for a comprehensive cataract evaluation. We manage your cataract surgery pre- and post-operatively.
GLAUCOMA
Glaucoma is currently the second leading cause of blindness in the United States. Glaucoma is an eye condition in which the fluid that circulates inside the eye is produced in too great a quantity or does not drain out of the eye properly. Glaucoma causes a loss of the peripheral vision first, followed by a loss of central vision. Since glaucoma is usually painless it can go undetected for years. Only by having a comprehensive eye exam can glaucoma be detected. Schedule an appointment with Dr. Robert Bass or Dr. Amy Carlyle for a comprehensive glaucoma evaluation.
MACULAR DEGENERATION
Macular degeneration is an age-related eye condition in which the part of the eye responsible for central vision, the macula, begins to deteriorate. This causes a loss of clarity and/or distortion of the central vision. There a two types of macular degeneration, the dry type and the wet type. The wet type causes bleeding inside the eye which can lead to severe vision loss. Identified early, the effects of macular degeneration can be minimized. Schedule an appointment with Dr. Robert Bass or Dr. Amy Carlyle for a comprehensive eye examination of the retina.
